Make the most of payroll services to make your life easier if you are a self employed contractor

As contracting has really taken off lately, and particularly since IR35 became law in 2000, there has been a growth in the number of contractor umbrella companies.  These companies offer the opportunity to be on the CIS payroll, working for a few different companies at once.  You can then take advantage of the payroll services supplied by the contractor company, who will process your timesheets themselves and send invoices to clients on your behalf.
Joining a CIS payroll has a number of positive features.  It gives you the independence and flexibility that comes with being a self employed construction industry professional, and enables you to be subcontracted to most UK construction companies.  Being self employed boasts advantages in itself.  You will pay less of a National Insurance contribution, and will be able to offset certain expenses against your tax liability on your Self Assessment tax return.  There is also the benefit of being eligible to work for companies who will not necessarily contract you directly.
It is fairly easy to start working for a commercial contracting company like Liquid Friday, which offers services within the commercial and public sector.  You will need to discuss the paperwork that needs to be completed with the company in question.  The first step is to register online or complete the registration forms.  This is important so that you can be verified with the Inland Revenue.  If you are eligible to work in the UK, the process should be able to get started.  If you are self employed you will need to send a timesheet, generally fairly early in the working week, so that the appropriate client can be invoiced.  When the client approves the invoice, your timesheet will be processed and the payment will be transferred into your account.  It is vital to make sure you know what the insurance policy of the company is, as this is obviously particularly relevant to the construction trade.  As a general rule of thumb, you should make sure you are covered by Professional Indemnity Insurance and Combined Liability Insurance.
The benefits, then, of belonging to a contractor umbrella company are surely apparent.  One of the most time consuming things about being self employed is handling your invoices and liaising with clients, and being on the CIS payroll will certainly eliminate all these tasks.  The payroll services these companies offer will almost certainly make it worth your while completing the small amount of paperwork that is needed to sign up.

Bacs has a series of important regulations: make sure you are compliant

bacs, or Bankers’ Automated Clearing Services, is a payment scheme that governs transactions in a multitude of transactions in industries all across the United Kingdom. Bacs payments are processed every day between companies and individuals, and the scheme accounts for a huge proportion of wage transactions for employees. Consequently, most business payments need to be processed through bacs on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. This can result in clunky and ineffective procedures, which can slow companies up. Part of this is due to the fact that bacs takes three working days to be processed, which can lead to problems in accounts payable. Often a top level bacs software solution is in order.

Bacs software providers can tailor solutions to the needs of individual businesses. The potential benefits are manifold, and they begin with the saving of expenditure on payment processing. It is usually integrated with your company’s accounts system, which helps to improve the efficiency of your payment processes. Accounts payable teams have enough on their plate, without having to chase down duplicate payments or rectify other mistakes in the payment system. That is why a reliable bacs solution is absolutely key if your business is going to stay competitive. The leading high street banks will be able to inform you about this, and will probably also be able to provide recommendations.

Further to these basic benefits – that is, making life easier for accounts payable teams and saving on payment processes – there are several others. For instance, a good software solution will give you a tight control over your payments, the upshot of which is that you will be able to comply with the legislation that governs bacs payments. The same factor – your optimised level of payment control – can prove to be a factor in reducing your exposure to the risk of fraud. Whatever solution you go for in the end, it is absolutely imperative that it is completely approved by bacs. Otherwise, you might run into all kinds of problems.

Whether your company is small or large, it could perhaps benefit from the use of bacs software. The best solutions from top bacs specialists are likely to remove a number of obstacles to the efficiency, and thereby the success, of your company. bacs payments are a reality you have to deal with on a regular basis, and it would be a mistake to process them in anything but the most effective way possible.

Sales presentations are more powerful when supported with good graphics

The importance of high-quality PowerPoint design cannot be exaggerated. When making sales presentations, for example, effective use of PowerPoint to clarify what you are saying can be the difference between your company winning the contract and your company losing the business. But when designing PowerPoint presentations it is tremendously important that you know what you are doing, otherwise it can prove as much of a hindrance as a help.

The main thing to keep in mind when designing a PowerPoint presentation is that it is designed to support your words. You, the speaker, should always remain the focus of attention and should not be eclipsed by your use of PowerPoint. One elementary mistake which a lot of people make when first using PowerPoint is in using it to repeat, often verbatim, what they have just said. Large blocks of text are a definite no-no and will make your addressees switch off. In terms of text, on a PowerPoint slide you should try to limit yourself to a few bullet-points at most. These should either act as headings for the more comprehensive statements you are making, or they should highlight crucial points, such as statistics, that you want to make sure your audience are aware of.

Speaking of statistics, one plus point of a PowerPoint presentation is that it allows you to display statistics graphically very easily. It is often declared that a picture speaks a thousand words. Some people certainly do find graphs and pie charts more intelligible than verbal descriptions of the same information. It is important, however, to avoid making such images too small. If your audience cannot see the figures involved or the detail you refer to in an image then think about enlarging it or showing a close-up of the pertinent part of it.

In any presentation it is useful to think about the order in which you want to present information to your audience. This is just as true of PowerPoint presentations, but you must also reflect on the order in which they will see different parts of each slide, and such things as colour, size and layout will be important in determining this.

Good PowerPoint design can help to demonstrate to your clients that you are a professional and capable outfit, and can help to maintain the interest of your audience. sales presentations need to convey a lot of information in a short space of time and in such a way that the audience will remember it. PowerPoint presentations are an extremely effective way of achieving this.

Hotel jobs Gulf – a world away from living in London

I have always really enjoyed working in the hospitality trade.  It is not just the satisfaction you receive from presenting high quality service, but also the opportunity to meet and spend time with such a wide variety of people.  I had lived in London for ten years when I started to consider whether using my skills further afield might be a good move.  I enjoyed working in five star hotels, so I tried searching the internet for ‘hotel jobs gulf’ and found that there was plenty of work out there that seemed very fitting for me.  Looking around the topic a bit more, searching for hospitality jobs Singapore and hotel jobs Dubai also returned some amazing looking opportunities.

I was then tasked with deciding which of these fantastic areas I wanted to live and work in.  I had seen lots of pictures of Dubai on the news, but didn’t know much about it.  Hotel jobs Dubai seemed to be largely on the high end side of things, but I knew my silver service training and experience in hotels in Knightsbridge would be an advantage in applying for this work.  I remembered that Dubai had experienced some problems in the worldwide financial crisis, but a further internet search seemed to confirm that the hospitality industry there was seeing something of a resurgence – perhaps it was the idea that the area would be so much cheaper than it had been previously, drawing visitors to the area.  I found three jobs that looked particularly suited to my experience, and sent off the online application forms.

Hospitality jobs Singapore presented me with a similarly dazzling array of possibilities. I hada couple of friends who had moved to the country with their jobs in banking and shipping, and I liked the idea of having a few friendly faces in the country I was moving to.  I got in touch with them and they assured me that life out there was rather lovely – not only did Singapore have much to offer, but there were opportunities for travel to all sorts of amazing nearby countries.  I found another three job adverts that looked like they matched up with my experience, and sent off some emails detailing how useful I could be to their hotels and restaurants.

I was fortunate enough to receive two requests for interviews over skype, for one of the hospitality jobs Singapore and one of the hotel jobs Dubai.  In the end I had left the hotel jobs gulf results because my head was already spinning with all the possibilities!  I was offered a job in a hotel in Singapore and now cannot wait to get started!
