Kickboxing London style

Kickboxing is an excellent way to get fit. The term includes a number of varying styles, but essentially they all revolve around using both punches and kicks to attack and defend against an opponent, in contrast to traditional boxing which only uses punching. A kickboxing club is a great venue to learn self-defence, get fit, meet people and maybe spar with them once you have progressed a little way. In terms of kickboxing London has plenty to offer, with plenty of clubs suitable for all. Just search the web or look in the local ads and you are bound to find something.

Classes are held at different times and on different days, so no matter what your timetable there will usually be something you can get to. The nature of martial arts is that, particularly at the beginning, it’s best to train as frequently as possible, and ideally at least twice a week. This enables you to gain fitness and flexibility as well as give yourself a good grounding in the basic moves – punches, kicks, blocks and footwork – that you will need. Like anything, the more you train the further and quicker you will progress, but it’s important to get that basic grounding.

Many clubs give a free taster session, recognising that lots of learners won’t want to sign up without knowing exactly what they’re getting into. For many people, their only picture of kickboxing and the martial arts more broadly will come from movie. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), those bad 1980s portrayals of karate, kung-fu and kickboxing clubs are not the reality when you actually show up. Times have obviously changed…

In any case, if you are looking to learn kickboxing London should have something to offer you. Sessions are typically fun and light to begin with – there’s no benefit to throwing someone in at the deep end, and safety concerns are taken as seriously as possible. Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes – a tracksuit, t-shirt or shorts are fine until you want to buy a gi or uniform, if the kickboxing club in question has one. Some are more formal than others in this way. Kickboxing is taught by experienced instructors who have practised for many years, though they are often assisted by competent students. With application and time, you could be teaching it yourself before too long.

Recovery audit software will save your accounts money

Every substantial firm with significant numbers of clients and workers will know that accounts can be difficult and problematic. That’s why an accounts payable audit is helpful at least once a year. Such an audit will enable you to find any errors in your accounting processes, one of the most common – and dear – of which will be duplicate payments. These can be easy to make, usually through simple human error. However, they can also be hard to detect and address, and the longer the situation has been left, the harder it can be to rectify. recovery audit software can make the process faster by automating it, leaving your staff to do what they do best.

One piece of research found that the impact of duplicate payments alone accounted for between 0.1 and 0.5 percent of company spending – not profit, spending, because these figures are about what is going out of your accounts. A company spending £50 million could easily expect to be losing £50,000, and entirely probably much more. And that’s just one kind of overpayment. It’s likely that one in every thousand payments for your company is a duplicate. That all builds up, and yet you may not notice it until a supplier lets you know – assuming they find it themselves, or want to tell you. And, of course, once a supplier goes out of business – not a rare event in this economic climate – any likelihood of retrieving that overpayment goes out of the window.

Some firms hire recovery auditors to do similar work for them. Whilst useful in tracking down problems, these individuals charge substantial fees. It also places control for your accounts auditing outside your own company, instead of within your accounts department – surely a poorer solution. Acquiring the right software can empower your own staff to find errors before they happen, and while there is still a good chance of fixing them.

These tend to be perennial and often costly problems. recovery audit software can almost entirely eliminate the problems of duplicate payments, other overpayments and further accounting errors, from the simple human error side of things to the more subtle and sinister side of supplier fraud. It makes the yearly (if that) accounts payable audit process painless and easy, giving the initiative back to your own company rather than outside agencies.

Hotel jobs Gulf – a world away from living in London

I have always really enjoyed working in the hospitality trade.  It is not just the satisfaction you receive from presenting high quality service, but also the opportunity to meet and spend time with such a wide variety of people.  I had lived in London for ten years when I started to consider whether using my skills further afield might be a good move.  I enjoyed working in five star hotels, so I tried searching the internet for ‘hotel jobs gulf’ and found that there was plenty of work out there that seemed very fitting for me.  Looking around the topic a bit more, searching for hospitality jobs Singapore and hotel jobs Dubai also returned some amazing looking opportunities.

I was then tasked with deciding which of these fantastic areas I wanted to live and work in.  I had seen lots of pictures of Dubai on the news, but didn’t know much about it.  Hotel jobs Dubai seemed to be largely on the high end side of things, but I knew my silver service training and experience in hotels in Knightsbridge would be an advantage in applying for this work.  I remembered that Dubai had experienced some problems in the worldwide financial crisis, but a further internet search seemed to confirm that the hospitality industry there was seeing something of a resurgence – perhaps it was the idea that the area would be so much cheaper than it had been previously, drawing visitors to the area.  I found three jobs that looked particularly suited to my experience, and sent off the online application forms.

Hospitality jobs Singapore presented me with a similarly dazzling array of possibilities. I hada couple of friends who had moved to the country with their jobs in banking and shipping, and I liked the idea of having a few friendly faces in the country I was moving to.  I got in touch with them and they assured me that life out there was rather lovely – not only did Singapore have much to offer, but there were opportunities for travel to all sorts of amazing nearby countries.  I found another three job adverts that looked like they matched up with my experience, and sent off some emails detailing how useful I could be to their hotels and restaurants.

I was fortunate enough to receive two requests for interviews over skype, for one of the hospitality jobs Singapore and one of the hotel jobs Dubai.  In the end I had left the hotel jobs gulf results because my head was already spinning with all the possibilities!  I was offered a job in a hotel in Singapore and now cannot wait to get started!

Getting to grips with design via the external louvre

When I first got into the construction trade, I found the more technical aspects of the industry rather difficult.  Where construction meets architecture, it all gets a bit technical, apparently! Everyday parlance at work demanded, however, that I understood certain terms – for example, I needed to know my brise soleil from my aluminium curtain and external louvre.  I was hoping to learn a lot on the job but pretty soon I realised that I would only really get ahead if I spent some time teaching myself until I really knew what I was talking about in all things construction.

The word brise soleil, I discovered, is from the French for ‘sun breaker’ which pretty much explains its purpose.  Architecturally, brise soleil describes a function of sun-shading techniques – and there can be more types of them than you might think.  A brise can be a patterned concrete wall, or a more complex creation like the one devised by Santiago Calatrava for the Milwaukee Art Museum.  They are not always ornate or creative, though.  More typically, it will be a horizontal projection from the sun facing side of a building.  Buildings with large amounts of glass can overheat seriously during the summer moths, and a brise soleil is the ideal way to stop this from happening.

External louvres can be incorporated into a brise soleil to make sure it offers protection from sun which falls from a higher angle, while also allowing winter sun in, maximising the passive solar heating potential of the building.  An aluminium curtain is also a way of protecting buildings from the weather – it is basically a curtain wall which provides a non-structural covering of a building, but one which protects it from air and water infiltration, as well as the effects of the wind.  Initially, curtain walls were made of steel, but they tend to be constructed with aluminium at the present time.  The aluminium frame can be infilled with glass to create an aesthetically more pleasing building, which lets in a sufficient amount of natural light.

Although I now understand that an external louvre can be fitted to a brise soleil to minimise exposure to direct sunlight, and an aluminium curtain provides a non-structural outer covering, I still feel somewhat out of my depth when discussing the finer points of these structures with the skilled architects who design them.  The more I looked into the subject, the more I came to see why these professionals need to study for seven years!

Phono Amp Makes Your Vinyl Sound Even Nicer

As a die-hard Vinyl lover, I can safely say that finding the right phono stage is absolutely essential in getting the best from your collection. A good phono preamp will take the sound to the next level, and leave you feeling like you’re hearing your records for the first time. I know this because my life-long love affair with LPs underwent a revolution, if you’ll pardon the expression, when I first bought a truly nice phono amp.

I first got into records because my Dad had a small collection of old Juke Boxes with classic Rock ‘n’ Roll ‘45s. Watching those wonderful machines as they responded to the press of a clunky button – the arm jolting into action and lowering the needle perfectly onto the record – was one of my favourite things in the world. I loved it almost as much as I loved the sound. Not the sound of the music itself (though of course I loved that too, and I became a huge fan of Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Elvis, and the whole style of Rock ‘n’ Roll, before I also got into blues and soul), but that sound the needle makes when it first rests on the vinyl, and up until the point when the music starts. To me it was, and still is, the sound of wonderful anticipation.

Of course, the phono amp and indeed the complete music world has changed since then, first with tape cassettes: they were considered attractive, compact and neat, at the time, and they had fantastic recording possibilities, but on the downside they were also easily breakable and often frustrating when it came to fast forwarding or re-winding; then CDs, which were technologically cutting edge but, again, broke easily. Now we have MP3s, which, suffice it to say, I’m not a fan of. For the sake of a digital format that is compatible with computers and laptops, a lot of quality has been sacrificed.

Nothing, especially a pile of formless data in a hard drive, will ever replace my beloved vinyl collection, which has always accompanied me as I grew up. When I obtained a promotion a few years back, I decided to treat myself to a new sound system, and I picked out a beautiful Mono Channel Reference phono stage that looked beautiful in my lounge, and I rediscovered my vinyl. Listening through the phono preamp was an incredible experience, and I never looked back.

Advice on finding sales ledger manager jobs in London

Job hunting can be a bit of a nightmare, and to make it easier you need to know exactly what you are looking for.  Just as the internet is perhaps the jobseeker’s most useful tool, it can also be your worst enemy if you do not use it to your advantage.  When looking for job vacancies, it makes sense to search for exactly what you want – typing, for example ‘security jobs jobs London’ or ‘sales jobs jobs London’ if you are looking for security or sales jobs in the context of jobs in London generally.  It is also worth being more specific about the exact type of job you want , using wording such as, for example sales ledger manager jobs in London, or accounts clerk jobs in Bedfordshire.

When you have completed your search and found all the available sales ledger manager jobs in London or whatever it may be that you are looking for, you will be faced with the actual application stage.  In most cases this will involve either completing an initial application form or sending a CV and covering letter.  In either case, the most important thing to remember is to make sure you articulate precisely how your experience and skills are relevant to the position in question.  In particular, if the job advert gives a person specification, in your covering letter you can list point by point the ways in which you fit the specification.

Online application forms can be slightly more tricky, and are worth spending a good amount of time on.  It is particularly important to read through the form carefully before you send it, and perhaps the best way to do this is to print it out, as it is often easier to spot errors on paper than on your computer screen.  In addition, it is sensible for you to keep a paper copy of the application form, as your answers to the questions might form the basis of interview questions should you be invited to a face to face interview.

The advantage of using the internet to search for roles is that you can modify your search exactly to your requirements – whether it be sales ledger manager jobs in London, or accounts clerk jobs in Bedfordshire.  The internet, unlike a real person, will not look at you quizzically if you ask it for security jobs jobs London or sales jobs jobs London; it will thoroughly  conduct a search and provide you with the most suitable results, so that you can get on with your job hunt with the best possible choices available.
